Dynamic Combinatorial Chemistry (FKD3040) 2p

Dynamic Combinatorial Chemistry is given as a graduate course (PhD-course) by the Division of Organic Chemistry, School of Chemical Sciences, KTH. The course is open to PhD-students at KTH, other universities, research institutes, and industry. Advanced undergraduate students can be admitted if places are available. 2 points/credits (3hp) will be awarded upon completion of the course. Teaching will be given in English.

Course Objectives

The course is objected to provide students with an advanced level of understanding regarding the principles of dynamic combinatorial chemistry (DCC), and applications of DCC systems in bio-, nano- and materials science. Students will be guided/inspired to understand the properties and importance of dynamic reactions, and their translation to function in combinatorial systems.

Prerequisites

Students admitted to the course are expected to have advanced comprehension in organic chemistry, physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, biochemistry, and analytical chemistry.

Application

Application for the course should be made before June 28, 2007, to Olof Ramström (ramstrom@kth.se).

Schedule 2007

The course is arranged as a condensed lecture series comprising six individual lectures (1 x 60 min). All lectures will be given by internationally renowned experts in the field.

All lectures will take place in Lecture Hall F3, Lindstedtsvägen 26, on June 29, 2007.

Examination

Required participation in all lectures.

Take-home assignment consisting in the following:

  1. Prepare a microreview (max. 5 pages) on any aspect of DCC, and revise it according to a referee report.
  2. Act as a referee on a microreview from another participant.

Microreview due before September 12, 2007

EXAMINATION MAP

The referee report should address the following:

  • Scientific correctness: Check contents for misconceptions and errors.
  • References: Appropriate reference to scientific literature.
  • Presentation: Language, figures, text format, length etc.
  • Recommendation: "Publish" with minor/major revision, etc.

Send the referee report direct to Olof Ramström when finished.

November 2007: All participants have passed the examination.
